Black Leather Vest

October 18, 2008

This vest is one of my most favorite buys of all time. It’s black, it has leather, and a few studs – very rock star like. It also reminds me of Hard Gay. Har har! :D

My friend Doms and I saw it one day when I was accompanying her to buy some nice stuff from shops along P. Faura. I really wanted to have a vest, but it’s a bit intimidating with the leather front. I’m not even sure about how I would pull it off with the clothes I have in my closet. But, since Doms was urging me to buy it, my boyfriend wants to buy it for me, and it fits me really well, so I took it home.

And it turned out to be a right decision! I use it whenever I wear something really plain, like a shirt and a pair of pants, or a shirt with a skirt. It adds a little more something to my everyday outfit. It also gives me an instant “artistic look.” Yay!

I also love it because I can use it for other purposes. I used it once when I went loli-goth during the Collecticon at Robinson’s Manila. I paired it up with a nice, black skirt and fully laced top – instant dress up! It’s also very suitable for maid/butler outfits and school girl costumes.

Outfit: Top from Roxy, Corduroy-like Skirt (P20) and Leather Vest  (P35) from Ukay-ukay, black Zhin-Wei sneakers, black socks.

10 Rules in Ukay-Ukay Shopping for Beginners

  1. Know what you’re looking for. This saves time.
  2. Always, always try to fit the clothes you find. Even if the clothes are cheap, you should make every peso worth it. Besides, who would want to wear ill-fitting clothes?
  3. Haggle! Although I don’t do this very much, it pays to try.
  4. Since its not easy to find something that you really want, be sure that you have time to spend for shopping.
  5. Don’t just compulsively buy clothes. If you think you won’t be able to wear the clothing after a few months (e.g. if the style’s fad), don’t buy it. Well, unless you really, really want it…
  6. Never forget to check the clothing if there are holes or stains. You might be able to buy a cheap skirt but you might have to pay more for repairs/alterations.
  7. WASH the clothes before wearing them. I mean it. You’ll never know who wore that piece of clothing before.
  8. Mix and match clothes. Nicely paired clothes will make you look like a million dollars.
  9. Bring a friend for second opinions. It’s also fun to shop when you have someone to chat while looking for clothes.
  10. Be patient. There are lots of nice, random things that you can find in shops.

Ukay-Ukay Escapades

October 1, 2008

Hi! Welcome to Ukay-ukay Escapades, a blog where I would share to you my weird/cute/great finds at ukay-ukay shops around the Metro. Yay! *clap clap clap*

To start off, let me tell you the story of my life as a human who wears clothes.

Other people choose my clothes. As a child, I wasn’t the “I want this one!” type of kid. I only wear what everybody hands to me. I didn’t have fashion sense when I was in high school. I had no idea what to wear, what’s in, or what to buy. Most of my clothes are hand-me-downs that unfortunately came from boys (yes, FUBU and Tommy Hilfiger baggy shorts, huge shirts…), and the rest are bad fitting clothes that my Mom bought for me – not that I dislike the clothes that my Mom gave me, but I just realized that most of them are two or more sizes larger than my actual size.

My “fashion turning point” was college. Since we don’t have a uniform in UP, I had to buy clothes that are comfy and would not go out of style in a few months. It was the first time that I actually bought pants that ACTUALLY fit me. I also bought a few shirts – typical shirts. (more…)
