10 Rules in Ukay-Ukay Shopping for Beginners
October 18, 2008
- Know what you’re looking for. This saves time.
- Always, always try to fit the clothes you find. Even if the clothes are cheap, you should make every peso worth it. Besides, who would want to wear ill-fitting clothes?
- Haggle! Although I don’t do this very much, it pays to try.
- Since its not easy to find something that you really want, be sure that you have time to spend for shopping.
- Don’t just compulsively buy clothes. If you think you won’t be able to wear the clothing after a few months (e.g. if the style’s fad), don’t buy it. Well, unless you really, really want it…
- Never forget to check the clothing if there are holes or stains. You might be able to buy a cheap skirt but you might have to pay more for repairs/alterations.
- WASH the clothes before wearing them. I mean it. You’ll never know who wore that piece of clothing before.
- Mix and match clothes. Nicely paired clothes will make you look like a million dollars.
- Bring a friend for second opinions. It’s also fun to shop when you have someone to chat while looking for clothes.
- Be patient. There are lots of nice, random things that you can find in shops.
