Mega Masquerade 2009

November 2, 2009

I was a little unsure if I could attend this event or if it would push through. For one, signal number 3 was raised in Metro Manila the night before. I was up almost all night before this event - I was paranoid about the weather and I was rushing our masks for the event.

For some reason, mother nature was realy kind - the next morning, Metro Manila was under signal number 2 yet the skies are calm. So hello masquerade.

As I said in my previous post, I dressed up in one of my recent loli ensemble:

Bad lighting! Haha. Friends with good cameras, please upload our pics.

I made my boyfriend ‘dress up’ - coat + black pants + Aka head beand-turned-cravat:

Let’s pay attention to our masks, shall we?

I bought the masks bare from Divisoria at 25 each. Then I painted them a few days prior to the event with poster paint - which was a wrong move since they looked too boring. The black was too muted. I wish I just bought acrylic or something else.

I discovered the wonders of double-sided tape the night I was making these. It was a rush job and I don’t have time to experiment with other mediums (glue,  rugby, whatev). I ruffled the lace the same night and wrapped a balloon stick with black and red double-edged satin ribbon. I love how the stick looked like after I finished wrapping it.

Since it’s too plain, I added my brooch as an aditional detail to the mask. The chains gave an illusion of tears from afar, which I liked a lot.

This is the boyfriend’s mask. I wanted his to be plain and simple, since he’s a guy and all that. Actually, I ran out of ideas on how to make a wonderful male mask with the stuff I have at home, so I ended up doing this abstract-ish design. Ah, the wonders of double-sided tape.

You might wonder why I didn’t use glitters (which is a ’staple’ for masquerades). One, I don’t like having random glitters on my skin. Two, I don’t like very shiny stuff. And three, I might irritate my eyes, so I’d rather play safe with paint, lace and ribbons.

I also discovered the wonders of masking tape - they’re perfect for temporarily fixing costume glitches.

Other pics from the event!

Blurred pic is blurred.

I finally got to use my fascinator. I figured I should just attach it to a clip, which probably looks way better than having it set on a headband or on a ribbon. Also, I figured I need a new skirt for my loli costumes. The skirt I’m using is a little too heavy for my petticoat, and it makes it less poofy whenever I use the two together.

Don’t stone me for this statement, but I look a little fat on that pic. Maybe its because of my arm’s position. Okay, I’m actually gaining weight guys! It’s a YAY since I’m no longer underweight!

Anyway…

Pillsburybun, a tiny plushie I found during the event. We sticked my friend’s lashes on him while eating at Tokyo-Tokyo.

Camwhoring during the event. I, uhm, love my lips on this pic. Also, heavy eyeliner yo!

And finally, my favorite cosplayer for the event:

Little Harry Potter! I wanted to kidnap this litte kid, he’s too cute! Actually, he’s there with his parents, strolling around the mall for treats.

Over-all, I had fun. There weren’t much people, so we were able to roam around the venue and look at the booths. The bands were great, we particularly liked the band who performed before the Late Isabel (hafto research about this band). Too bad, we couldn’t watch the Late Isabel - some of our friends were too hungry to wait for the band. Grr, maybe next time.
