Project: Fleece Hat

July 9, 2010

I’ve always wanted to have a fleece hat. Whenever I attend  anime conventions, I see at least one booth selling these. And boy, they are pricey. I’ve been looking around for this fabric and they’re hard to find. Out of frustration, I even considered getting that fleece blanket on sale just to get the material I want. Last week, I toured around Divisoria (my favorite ‘art’ playground) and found what I call, “The Source.” OMG THEY HAVE FLEECE!

I just had to do a ‘kawaii pose’ out of happiness.

I finally made a fleece hat! Yay! I found a very useful tutorial on how to make basic fleece hats and added details from there. Since  I’m addicted to bunnies right now, I had to make this version first. At first, its was a bit challenging to align the material since its stretchy. This one actually has some unwanted wrinkles here and there.

The second one is a cat hat. I had to do two trials just to get the right shape for the ears. I wanted to go for small ears, but my first set of ears looked too elongated (think Avatar). To make things easier, I opted for the large ear version. It turned out well - I didn’t even have to implant wires to make the ears stand.

I just posted pictures of these on my Multiply page to see if anyone would want to have these comissioned. I’m all set to make several of these, so do tell me if you want one! I’m also open for requests (e.g. you want a panda hat).

What do you think?
